NO Way to Monopolization: Yes to Meeting People’s Needs

Oil Minster Inspects Work at Taiz Gas Plants

SEPT. 2006─ Mr. Khaled Mahfouth Behah, oil minister, and Omer Al-Arhabi, oil company GM, and Dr. Najeeb Al-Awaj, vice-GM of the gas company, paid an inspection visit to the branch office of the MOM and gas refilling plants and oil derivatives. The purpose was to ensure that oil derivatives meet the needs of the local markets and ensure that no shortage or confusion takes place during the Blessed Holy Month, Ramadan.

Then, in the meeting with the staff, the minister emphasized that all MOM’s staff and its affiliates are ready to encounter any emergency and to stop any manipulation and/or monopolization of such products. This is because some greedy people try to exploit Ramadan by carrying such misdeeds. He further stressed on preventing the smuggling of gas because of which the $ 300 thousand refilling gas plant, at al-Jandiyah district, was founded with the aim of meeting the needs of gas consumption in Taiz and Ibb governorates.

He added that attempts have been made to opportune the current political circumstances by charging extremely high prices for oil derivatives. He affirmed that there are enough materials to cover the needs of the Holy Month. Actually, a clear vision has been developed and created to encounter any emergency and any attempts for political manipulation of the national economy. He further stressed that the MOM has nothing to do with any political practices or activities and its duty is to meet the people’s needs of oil products.

He assured all social segments that there would be no gas shortage and large quantities are available for all governorates. Such amounts would be sufficient for a number of weeks and 160 thousand gas cylinders are allocated for Taiz and Aden governorates to be distributed to the markets at any moment.

More over, all of the Aden refineries’ production is directed to the local market as well as the eastern, western and middle governorates but not for export.

He further added that reshuffling of officials of the MOM and its affiliates is to be done every five years. He praised the work and good performance of the staff in the company’s branch and refilling gas plants and oil services in Taiz.

He then was given a detailed account by Mr. Abdullah Alannessi, Yemeni oil company’s branch, of the work there and accomplishments within the first half of the current year. He indicated that efforts have been exerted by its staff to prevent any monopolization of oil derivatives and thus avail such products in the Holy Month and engender a stable supply condition. In addition, attempts are carried out to put on check any manipulation carried out by some psychos.

Other visits were to Taiz airport where the minister was given a complete rundown of the work of the oil company’s plants. He was briefed on how aircrafts fuel was made available and on the amount of the daily consumption, and the gas station’s storage capacity.

On his part, the minister affirmed that the MOM is willing to increase supply to meet any demands.

Then a visit was paid to Tawfiq Abdulraheem refilling gas plant where he met the manager of the plant and its employees. Being updated of the work there and of the supply and demand of oil products to meet the needs of the people, he indicated that the plant should adhere to the MOM’s instructions and should offer gas as a service material.

His last destination was Sid Aljabalian plants, Beir Albasha, where he was informed of the present constructional work of the safety and security network as well as the large storing capacity of the plants which would definitely galvanize the stability of the gas supply in Taiz. The plants’ gas reserves amount to 80 thousand gas cylinders which would be sufficient to meet the needs of the market for a whole month.
