Oct. 30 Yemen Participates

Yemen is going to participate in
“The Ninth Arab Conference for Minerals Resources”,
to be hosted by Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on October 30.
The three-day Conference would be an opportunity for
Arab countries to discuss a number of investment
issues pertaining to minerals. In line, the Yemeni
Delegate, headed by Mr. Khaled Mahfouth Bahah,
Yemeni oil and minerals minister, would have the
chance to present fourteen papers and to introduce
Yemen’s potential opportunities in minerals.
Talking Mr. Bahah said, “The Conference would be
inaugurated by King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, the
Servant of the Two Holy Mosques. One of its
objectives is to make Arab States engender more apt
investment climates and stimulate Arab and foreign
capitals to invest in minerals. Add to that is the
transference of advanced and up-to-date technology
as a means of varying Arab national income
resources, reducing unemployment rates and
generating new job opportunities.
He further added that the Arab participant ministers
would meet to discuss the magnitude of developing
minerals investments in Arab States, especially that
the Arab World is rich with oil, different minerals,
industrial materials ornamental rocks, and ores of
construction materials.
On Yemen’s participation, he confirmed that the aim
is to give Arab investors more information and
knowledge on Yemen’s investment opportunities in
minerals and to attract capitals to invest in this
sector.

“More importantly Yemen would effectively part take
in the Conference through presenting seven working
papers and another seven in the form of
presentations. Not only that, it would participate
in the technical exhibition held simultaneously with
the Conference,” confirmed Mr. Bahah.
One of the papers to be presented would give an
account of the geological seismic operation and
minerals exploration in Yemen. While some papers
would explore the promising metallic deposits
located in the border-areas between Yemen and Saudi
Arabia, others would shed light on industrial and
constructional rocks in Abyen and Lahj governorates
as well as the gold belt associating basement rocks
in the western and north-western areas of Yemen and
other significant sites.
Last but not least, it is expected that Dr. Isma’el
Al-Janed,
the head of the Geological Survey and Mineral
Resources Board (GSMRB,
would preside the first working session of the
Conference.
