April 24, 2007 Barcelona, Spain: The Minister of Oil and Minerals Mr. Khaled Mahfoudh Bahah with his delegation attended the 15th International Conference & Exhibition on Liquified Natural Gas that was held in Barcelona, Spain.  During the exhibition the Minister attended the opening of the Yemen LNG exhibition. During the conference the Ministry of Oil will be giving a presentation regarding the Liquefied Natural Gas project in Yemen.

The LNG conference is held once every 3 years joining the largest international companies in LNG and also government officials and experts to discuss several issues related to the global gas industry in terms of the global reserves and the various methods for utilizing gas and its role in the various industries.  In addition, to the possibility of utilizing it as a source for energy that is safe on the environment.

The successes of the LNG conferences has given Yemen an opportunity to present its resources in this field especially that there is an increase in the demand for this important product.

“The focus on the advanced technology for Natural Gas and the new exploration studies have put Yemen as one of the few countries that are producing and exporting LNG and opens the door for expanded international trade”. Minister of Oil said.

The Republic of Yemen inaugurated the Yemen LNG project in August 2005.  This project is among the largest investment projects with a total budget of 3.7 billing USD with a unique joint investment of the public and private sector from the local and international organizations and companies.

As of March 2007, 50% of the work has been completed for the Yemen LNG project in Balhaf and the pipelines in the processing facilities in Mareb and Liquification plant in Balhaf.  The pipeline to Balhaf will be 320km long with a diameter of 38 in.
