During
the visit of H.E. the Yemen Minister of Oil and
Minerals Mr. Khaled Mahfoud Bahah and accompanying
delegation to Canada yesterday Friday April 27,
2007, they visited the main office of NEXEN Inc.
where they were met by Mr. Charlie Fisher President
and CEO of Nexen Inc. and Mr. Larry Murphy, Sr. VP
International Oil and Gas along with other high
officials of the company. During the visit H.E. the
Minister was given a presentation on the activities
of NEXEN in Yemen and the future plans for blocks 14
and 51 for the years 2007 and 2008. The Minister of
Oil and Minerals has assured that the Ministry of
Oil will provide the support needed as per the
systems and regulations of the Republic of Yemen for
NEXEN to expand its investment in the Oil and Gas
industry. NEXEN has thanked the Ministry for the
continued support from the Ministry of Oil and
Minerals and its agencies.
The
Minister of Oil also met Mr. Shane Jaffer –
Director, International Financial Institution from
government of Alberta, Canada (Alberta is the
largest Canadian State producing 73% of the total
energy in Canada and has the second largest Oil
reserves, 175.3 billion barrels of oil equaling to
14% of the total reserves in the world, after the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). The total number of Oil
and Gas wells in Alberta equal to 142,962 wells with
total production of 1.7 billion b/d. The minister
also met officials from the energy consultancy
company Fraser Milner Casgrain.
During
the meeting discussions were held regarding possible
aid and support to be provided from the Government
of Alberta and it was agreed to appoint a focal
point from the Ministry of Oil and Minerals to
further discuss cooperation and identify priority
areas for technical assistance and consultancy
services that can be provided to the Ministry of Oil
and Minerals.

The
Minister of Oil and Minerals and the accompanying
delegation also visited the Alberta Energy Utilities
Board (AEUB) where he was met by the acting director
of the board and other high officials of the board.
The Minister was given a presentation on the
activities of the board starting with the
legislations to the by-laws that organize the
exploration and production of Oil and Gas. In
addition to the administration of the oil and gas
operations and how to manage the operating companies
in the Oil and Gas production and exploration
blocks. The Minister and his delegation exhibited
their admiration of the activities of the board and
it was agreed at the end of the meeting to expand
the cooperation between the AEUB and the Ministry of
Oil and Minerals.

Mr. Abdullah Abdulwali Nasher the Yemeni Ambassador
in Canada accompanied the Minister of Oil in these
meetings.
